How can something be all-pervasive and all-important, and yet invisible and indescribable? Attempts to capture the nature of time in words or visuals too often descend into abstraction or nonsense. (And according to Scientific American, time is an illusion.)
All the same, we would like you to share what you have written, drawn, painted or photographed relating to time.
Do not try to describe time itself.
Instead, let us know about another time of your life, or that of someone you once knew. Play around with the concept of time travel. Predict the future, or indulge in nostalgia for what once was. Write a poem that captures an instant - or an eternity. Scribble down a piece of doggerel that rhymes “time” with “sublime” (or “crime”). Create an acrostic that contains the word “time” in a secret language only you know.
Or share a serious essay about geological eras. Complain about how &*%$# long it takes your toddler to put his socks on when you’re already late for work. Muse on the increasing speed of the passing of the years after menopause. Tell us about the last moment you spent with someone you love (or someone you despise). Share a chapter of your madcap heist novel that involves a ticking time bomb. Tell us how times have changed, and what you think about that.
If you take the time to submit it, we promise that we will take the time to read and review it.
Please visit our submissions page for more details, and send in your work between January 1 and January 31, 2024. Issue #4 will be published in March 2024.
