Nowhere in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is time mentioned.
"Time is money," but we pay for groceries with dollars and not minutes. Objects can be seen and felt, but without time they cannot be.
The ubiquity and transcendence of time are at the heart of the variety of perspectives our writers took in this, our fourth issue.
In these poems and stories, time is a catalyst to action, or a reason to decide against it; when turned around, time can be hilarious. In the close examination of a moment, it can reveal both sweetness and sorrow. And time can also create conflict - especially when too little remains.
Literature, serious or silly, takes time to create, to curate, and to enjoy. The moments we spend in the effort are surprisingly rewarding. And when we spend them, we truly know their value.
Issue 4 of The Apostrophe will be published starting on March 1, 2024 - one piece per day, with the full PDF version published on the final day.
